CSL: University of Regina / UofR CSL Team info
« on: October 02, 2012, 09:28:33 PM »
Hello, this thread will tell you all you need to know about the UofR CSL team.

What is the CSL?
The CSL(Collegiate Star League) is a competitive Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty league, with players forming teams based within their respective university or college. All the players in the league are university or college students. You can find all the info you need here: http://www.cstarleague.com/

Who are the organizers?

There are currently three,
Taylor (Chaos.551)
Josh (Scallywag.176)
Kyle (puttputt.679)

We handle all of the line-ups, matches and players. Have any questions? Ask one of us.

What deems me able to play for the team?
You need to be a current full or part time student at the University of Regina, or one of the federated colleges.
This is proven by using your @uregina.ca email account. You can not be on the team without using this email.

How do I sign-up?
Go to http://www.cstarleague.com/ and sign up on both the CSL website and the Abuzu website. YOU NEED TO USE YOUR @UREGINA.CA email account

After this, send an email to UofrCSL@gmail.com to join the teamer.net organizer.

How do the matches work and when do the matches occur?
Each match will be and best of 5 games in the following format...

1v1
1v1
2v2
1v1
Ace(1v1)

The rules in extreme detail are found here: http://www.cstarleague.com/rules

We play these matches all at the same time with the opposing university/college and only play the ace match if there is a tie.
Roughly a week before we play the match, we must summit a line-up, a list of the players and the race they will be playing on the scheduled map. One of the organizers will summit the line-up based on who can play. We have to select 5 unique players each week for the first four matches. The ace is picked as its going to be played.
The match times have yet to be announced. I will post all of the match times in a separate board in which you can opt out of matches you can not play.

How do i know if i am playing on a particular week?

Everyone is to be able to play every week UNLESS you post in the corresponding thread on that one week!!!! This means that you can potentially play any week, and must post in the according thread to state if you cant play. This was changed to allow us to field a better team each week instead of 6 players i can get ahold of, then have all of the team online during the match. You will have up to a week before the match date to state if your unable to play.

again to make it clear.....

YOU MUST OPT-OUT FROM MATCHES IF YOU CANNOT ATTEND THEM!!!!!!!! FAILING TO DO SO WILL FORCE US TO USE SUBS WHEN WE DONT NEED TO!!!!!!

Does the team meet anywhere?
In the SC2 channel "Saskgamers"

Hey Xdrapow, Welcome to the forums!

Glad to see the LoL community starting to use the forums. Let everyone know about saskgamers and feel free to start some threads and discussions in the A-RTS forums http://saskgamers.com/forum/index.php?board=29.0. We have a partnership with OTV technology so if you want more exposure, drop off some posters or ads for the event and just say "I am with saskgamers.com and we are hosting an event at the Matrix Gaming Centre. Would mind pinning these up at the sales counter?"

If i get some extra time i could throw together a poster, just let me know about what images and info you want on it, how you want it laid out.

PS. the thread is now sticky

Sign up here : http://challonge.com/tournaments/signup/edt36ixbd4

Map listings:

Cloud Kingdom
Daybreak
Ohana
Antiga Shipyard
Entombed Valley
Metropolis

Going with this list

Ladder maps most likely
This time around, players will veto maps they don’t want to play and then a list will be generated for each matchup based on the maps favored by both players. The first map will be determined by both players preferences and then the loser will pick the further map.
For example
Map list antiga, lost temple, entombed, BGH, steppes of war, xelnaga caverns, daybreak

Player 1 hates antiga and entombed
Player 2 hates BGH and Steppes of war

Lost temp, xelnaga and daybreak are the maps used.

Random generation will determine the first map
We plan on have 11 maps and players can get rid of 3 or 9 maps get rid of 2, making a 5 map pool given players select unique options (no overlap).

This allows players to never play certain maps, allowing to focus training/practice.

Post your comments and thoughts below.

EDIT

I think I voted group system, but now that I read it over again, it does seem like it would create a lopsided tournament, with lackluster finals. It also encourages someone to throw their first game. Someone might even meta game the meta tournament, and decide to play their first match really well, because he assumes everyone else will throw their first game thinking they will get an advantage by going to the losers side. I'm gonna meta those people by voting we discuss other systems! ha.

My opinion, is do a group stage first round, but the winners and losers get seeded into two separate tournaments. I dunno, just an initial thought. I also liked the system of the last tournament.

I have thought it over, and i think the best format is do group stages into seperate swiss tournaments. Bracket systems only work on a even skill level (ie MLG). Like many have said, it will be stale and be dumb match ups. Swiss really seperates the skill lvl nicely and gives players a really nice gauge on how well they did. I think this go around there will be prizes for the top 6-8 really make those middle positions a tough competitive fight, leading to better matches.

Quick update. I am almost done the poster for it. DONE!

Please edit your posts and provide feedback on this

P.S. good work on the poster.

Its on the second.
Thanks! It took awhile to manually draw the units, i am glad its done.

Oh man this will be so sick!

EDIT: I have a question? Will the 4 other invites be solely off of former SaskGamer tourney results because I've only participated in one and nerves got to me badly since it was my first LAN and I had terrible results. I have some pretty good achievements that I think could help my cause if I do not make it through the qualifiers.

EDIT#2: Is it BYOC?

Its not BYOC, The greenroom tourney is online, the Access 7 tourney is played at the Access 7 Studio.
I cant comment on the invite as i am not handling them. I would think your definitely a candidate but i cant say for sure. we will announce the invited players after the tournament and contact the players privately. Either way GLHF
